For all my antipathy against the Daily Dish, I do find myself in a more of a love of the “love-hate” relationship lately. Especially Andrew’s brief “Face of the Day” of A sister of 32-year-old slain Iraqi Syriac Catholic priest Taher Saadallah Boutros. The palpable grief in her face is something that words have a hard time expressing.
The Chaldean Catholic community in Iraq has suffered a great deal in the past since the invasion. As one of the oldest communities in Iraq, the small but influential Chaldean community has been a target repeately by Al-Qaeda and Islamist extremist groups. The failure of the government to crack down on the insurgency and protect minority groups just furthers my belief that the stale and turgid government is edging more toward collapse.
