A peripheral friend of mine, a person whom I went to university with and has updated their facebook to note what they think are absurdly high petrol prices. I immedietly wanted to tell this person how wrong their assumption was, being without data or observable analysis.

As you can clearly see from this study by FRED, oil prices for vehicles have been growing over the last century, but when compared to the overall world prices in the industrialized world, the prices are low.
